Mutually United Grain & Grape Zymurgists
Club Information
Mutually United Grain & Grape Zymurgists (M.U.G.G.Z.) was formed as a relatively informal forum for beer, wine, mead, and cider makers to share recipes and information, discuss ingredients and processes, and especially to share the products of their labor.
The first M.U.G.G.Z. meeting was held in March of 1994 and the club has been meeting at Dorato's from May 1994 until early 1998 at which point the meetings moved to The Bavarian Chalet.
Meetings are normally held on the third Sunday of each month except for the summer months of June, July, and August when they are held on the third Monday.
Meetings begin at 4:00 PM and are held at The Bavarian Chalet on Route 20 in Guilderland.
Club activities and events include:
- Homebrew Dinner (January, usually the Sunday before Martin Luther King Day)
- 6 course meal which has been prepared by the chef at Dorato's with homebrew integrated into each recipe
- Beer Trip (May, National Homebrew Day)
- usually a tour of brewpubs and microbreweries in a chosen area
Membership dues are $20 payable in both May and November. The dues cover:
- Beer Trip van rental, driver, and either lunch or dinner.
- Homebrew Dinner: the ingredients for the 6 beers and/or meads that are made by club members for the dinner.
- The cost of printing and mailing the newsletter.
